Getting ready for WWDC08…

Less than a week to go to WWDC08 which will be the largest concentration of Cocoa developers ever! I’ll be the one with the purple pom-pons and, yes, that is the correct spelling, so if you spot me please say “Hi!”.

I’m planning an overhaul of the CocoaCheerleaders site shortly after WWDC08 to include new content and new functionality. If you have any suggestions, or if you’re interested in collaborating on the overhaul, particularly if you’re also a WebObjects developer, please let me know.

Still Cheering…

It has been a long time since I last posted. The last year has been, well, sub-optimal. Those of you who know why, know why; those of you who don’t, well, you can probably make up a more interesting reason than any I can give.

Anyway, there has never been a better time to be a Mac developer, and now that the iPhone SDK is with us, there’s never been a better time to be a Cocoa developer. So let’s get cheering again!

It seems like ages since WWDC07 and I’ve not updated the blog since then, although the main CocoaCheerleaders site has seen quite a few new additions.
If you have, or have found, a Cocoa-related resource that you think should be added to CocoaCheerleaders, please let me know and I’ll get it added!

Apologies in advance if your favorite site or blog (or your own site or blog) isn’t already included in CocoaCheerleaders - the content included so far represents a broad selection of Cocoa resources, but is in no way complete.
One thing to note was that in the blogs section, for example, the primary criteria was to find blogs that had a lot of actual Cocoa content, rather than blogs that happened to be written by Cocoa developers.
Apologies to if your site or blog has been featured and you’re not happy with the description - let me know what you think is incorrect and I’ll take another look.

Still not finished…

There are a few things that are still not working on the site (such as the navigation under Internet Explorer, but that didn’t come as a big surprise), and a few content areas that are still not complete.

I’m hoping to get them all finished off before WWDC07 starts as this is when I hope to launch the website with a massive marketing campaign - otherwise known as wearing a CocoaCheerleaders t-shirt and seeing who notices it.

Actually, it all started with the name — CocoaCheerleaders. Apart from the wonderful alliteration, the combination of Cocoa and Cheering was simply too good to miss — I mean, how many of us haven’t attempted a front handspring step out, round-off backhandspring step-out, round-off back handspring, full-twisting layout when finally getting something to compile? (Hint: let go of the mouse first otherwise you can end up tripping over the cable. Or get a wireless mouse.)

Then one night, after a particularly nice meal with some particularly nice people in a Hunan restaurant in San Francisco, the idea behind CocoaCheerleaders actually took shape: a one-stop site that would bring together the very best in Cocoa-related websites, blogs, podcasts, mailing lists, books, and source code repositories, all mixed in with some cheerleading.

I’ll post more of the background information to the site on the PyrusMalus blog, including some of the fun technical aspects of the site.

So while it may have started as a joke, we’re serious about making it the best collection of Cocoa resources. If you know of any Cocoa-related sites or blogs that you think are worthy of a cheer, let us know!

Welcome to CocoaCheerleaders - possibly the only website to feature both an object-oriented application environment and pom-poms.

So what is CocoaCheerleaders all about? It is a collection of links to great resources — websites, blogs, podcasts, books, mailing lists, and code - for developers using Cocoa, Apple’s object-oriented application environment.

And what is CocoaCheerleaders not all about? Well, while we might be cheerleaders for Cocoa, we’re not trying to put anything else down. Cocoa is better than, say, Carbon for exactly the same reasons that Carbon is better than Cocoa: if it makes you more productive, and it keeps you happy, then go cheer for it!
